Maybe they feel that if Toni starts to decline in his goal production, they can at least sell him for even a couple million, rather then lose him for nothing after four years. If he has a good 2 seasons and the 3rd he starts to decline, they can sell him for a couple million, rather then nothing after the fourth season.
That's just my thoughts...most likely it's completely off base, but that's the approach i would use if i were signing a 30 yr old for 4 years?
