Burley: The future is bright

Quote:
Southampton manager George Burley maintains the future is bright at St Mary's despite missing out on promotion back to the Premiership.

Saints were beaten in the play-off semi-final on penalties by Derby, and now are now facing up to a third season outside the top flight.

Their failure to gain promotion looks likely to see the departure of teenage left-back Gareth Bale, with Tottenham reportedly close to signing the Wales international.

But despite the disappointment of their play-off exit, Burley is confident of mounting a sustained promotion push next season.

"Just over a year ago we were battling to stay in the Championship," he told Saintstv.com. "We managed that and changed things around a bit, and we have made good progress. We made big strides forward last season and we need to do the same again.

"We have the nucleus of a good squad and although we just missed out in the play-offs, there are a lot of positive signs. Fans can look forward to the future with a lot of optimism."

Well, Soton have lost Bale and who will follow him out the door of St.Mary's?
