Karlsruhe clinch Bundesliga promotion
SC Karlsruhe will be back in the German first division next season after a nine-year absence following a 1-0 victory over Unterhaching on Sunday.The victory puts Karlsruhe 11 points clear at the top of the second division. If second-placed Hansa Rostock fail to win on Monday at Rot-Weiss Essen, Karlsruhe will be assured of the title.
A capacity crowd of 29,500 was in Karlsruhe's Wildparkstadion to celebrate promotion thanks to a 67th-minute strike from Edmond Kapllani.
After 31 of 34 matches, Karlsruhe are on 66 points. Four clubs are in contention for the two remaining promotion places: Rostock, with a game in hand, on 55 points, MSV Duisburg, Greuther Fuerth and SC Freiburg (all 54).
Kaiserslautern's chances of an immediate return to the top flight were dented with a 3-2 defeat at Augsburg which leaves them in sixth place on 50 points.
