Does anyone think, now, that Ferguson has lost interest in Hargreaves? I think he's always wanted him to take Scholes' position in the side in time, but the cenre-midfield pairing of Scholes and Carrick, and lately even Fletcher and Carrick, has been very impressive. The fitness of those 3 players, especially, has been fantastic this season - Carrick in particular is always available for selection. Hargreaves, on the other hand, has had an unlucky season with injuries - and has suffered them a lot in the past. Scholes, Carrick and Fletcher haven't failed us at all this season, with O'Shea also able to provide good cover there as well. This huge price tag could be the last straw of our interest - £20m plus on a player who'd be in rotation is a lot to pay, especially when there ar others capable of the job. When Hargreaves gets it right, he's brilliant, but he has put in terrible performances in the past - pre-World cup for England he was shocking.
Ferguson wanted Essien, but refused to pay over £17m - and that was before we got Carrick in. He also refused to pay up Lyon's £18m valuation on Diarra. What makes Hargreaves so special that we'll pay even more on him than those other players?
