Default Albelda Proud Of Barça Interest

David Albelda has hinted that he would consider moving to FC Barcelona if the Catalan club made an offer and said that he is flattered by their interest.

The Blaugrana have made it no secret that they would like to prise the Valencia captain away from Mestalla in the summer and are reportedly preparing a bid.

Despite having three years left on his current contract, los Ché are keen to tie Albelda down for another season with improved conditions and a higher buy-out clause.

HIs dispute over the salary on offer has led to a stand-off with the director of sport, Amedeo Carboni, and that could lead to Barça being able to land their man at the end of the current campaign.

"If Barcelona called me I would be very proud," Albelda said. "If any big club shows an interest then it is a reason to be proud.

"Also, Barça are the current league champions and the European Cup holders. They are a massive club, with a great squad and will always be one of the major teams in world football.

"For anything to happen though, the club must make it clear that they too interested. Everything has to be weighed up. The truth is that the deal I have with the club is watertight.

The 29-year-old came through the youth ranks at Valencia and looked set to remain at the club for his entire career before negotiations began over a new deal recently.

Now Albelda has doubts as to whether los Ché will be the only club he represents.

"For a footballer, it cannot always only be about one club," he said. "When you are playing well it is obvious that other teams will notice you.

"A player can say that he will stay in one club for his entire career because so much can happen.

"I am from this area and it is the club I have played for since I was 15.

"Obviously there have been changes at the top, with presidents and directors moving on and each time I think that changes the face of the club."
