Serie A Week 21 - 28/1/07 (14.00 UK)

Cagliari 0 - 2 Reggina
Vigiani 47, 58 (R)
Stadio Sant'Elia

Reggina snatched a precious away victory in Sardinia that takes them out of the drop zone.

There was tension in both camps going into this relegation dogfight, as the Sardinians called a Press Silence following training ground bust-ups and a harsh public rebuke of Antonio Langella, while the Amaranto had picked up just one win from their last five. Long-term absentees Mauro Esposito and Antonio Chimenti were joined by Antonio Langella and flu-ridden Daniele Conti, while Rolando Bianchi returned to face his former club.

Curiously, Cagliari had never beaten Reggina in Sardinia in a Serie A tie before, managing just one draw from three meetings.

The goalkeepers rushed out early on to close down David Suazo and Bianchi, while the Honduran combined with Simone Pepe for Salvatore Aronica to block the shot.

It was a very balanced game, but Reggina took the lead 120 seconds after the break. Luca Vigiani made contact with Giandomenico Mesto's cross from the right for a looping header that slotted into the far top corner.

The Amaranto doubled their advantage in controversial circumstances. Vigiani got the final touch from six yards for his second of the game, but replays suggest he was offside when the cross from the left came in.

Nicola Amoruso hit the back of the net too, but it was disallowed for an offside position.

Cagliari tried to get back into the game as Suazo combined with newcomer Penalba, the Serie A veteran smashing his volley against the base of the upright.

It should've been 3-0 in the final stages, but Diego Lopez performed a decisive goalline clearance on Foggia's header.

Cagliari: Fortin; Pisano, Lopez, Bianco, Agostini; Marchini (Puddu 86), Biondini (Budel 69), L Colucci, D'Agostino (Penalba 52); Pepe, Suazo

Reggina: Pelizzoli; Lanzaro, Lucarelli, Aronica; Mesto, Tognozzi (Amerini 78), Tedesco, Modesto, Vigiani; Amoruso (Nardini 89), Bianchi (Foggia 65)
