Default Given out for a month

Quote:
Newcastle have confirmed that keeper Shay Given will be sidelined for a month due to injury.

Given limped out of Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham after straining a groin when attempting to claim a cross.

The Irishman was sent for a scan on Monday and the tests confirmed he had suffered damage to his groin.

The Magpies have been advised by their medical team that Given will be sidelined for upwards of four weeks.

It is the second injury Given has picked up against West Ham this term, as he suffered a perforated bowel at Upton Park in September.

Magpies chief Glenn Roeder is sure to rue the absence of Given, but he has a more than able deputy in the fit-again Steve Harper.
