Adams leaves Coventry
Quote:
Coventry City have parted company with manager Micky Adams.
Sky Blues officials called a board meeting on Wednesday morning to discuss Adams's future after seeing the club's slump continue with a 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Bristol City on Tuesday.
Coventry made a solid start to the season but have sunk down the Championship table in recent weeks following seven successive defeats.
Adams has remained adamant that he could turn Coventry's fortunes around but club bosses have decided it was time to bring his reign to an end before they become embroiled in a relegation battle.
Adams, a former Coventry player, took charge at The Ricoh Arena in February 2005 and was charged with the task of winning promotion to the Premiership this season.
"I'm leaving the club, that's for sure," Adams told Sky Sports News.
"I'm obviously disappointed, but my best wishes go to the football club for its future success. Sadly I won't be part of it.
"I'm bitterly disappointed but I understand and respect the decision, and the football club will move and I will move on.
"Unfortunately that's the way the football industry is, you don't get the time. Results go, gates fall, but I genuinely believe I could have turned it round.
"It's not been a disastrous tenure so that's what I don't understand.
"Obviously the sale of Gary McSheffrey was a big turning point for everyone because he's a quality player and you can't replace quality players that easily.
"I want to get back into work as soon as I can."
