Another coup for Energie Cottbus. The team from the Lausitz have captured a a defender from Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb.
FC Energie Cottbus have shored up their defences with the signing of Mario Cvitanovic on a free transfer from Dinamo Zagreb. On Friday, Cvitanovic joined the club on a contract running through until the end of June 2008, and was preparing to make his way to the Cottbus winter training camp in Antalya.
Heidrich: "He can help us staight away"
Cottbus general manager Steffen Heidrich said of the move, "With all his experience, Mario Cvitanovic is the perfect man to strengthen the left side of our defence in our battle to stay in the Bundesliga. He was an ever-present at Zagreb in the first half of the season there, and he can help us straight away."
Mario Cvitanovic was born on 6 May 1975 in Zagreb. After spells in Belgium and Italy, the seven-time Croatian international returned to his hometown club in the summer of 2006 and helped Dinamo to the top of the league going into the winter break.
A much-travelled man
Prior to that, Cvitanovic played for Belgian first division side Germinal Beerschot Antwerp, whom he moved to from SSC Napoli - one of four Italian teams he played for, garnering valuable Champions League and UEFA Cup experience along the way.
