Default Serie A: Livorno - Torino [23-12-06]

Serie A Week 18 - 23/12/06 (14.00 UK)
Livorno - Torino

Stadio Picchi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Torino will be hoping to pick up some valuable away points when they visit Livorno’s Stadio Armando Picchi, while the hosts will be desperate to halt their recent slide. With both teams losing in midweek, neither Coach will want their players to go into the Christmas break on the back of a demoralising double defeat.

Livorno had been up near the top of the Serie A table, but their run of poor results has finally started to catch up with them. Slipping down to 11th place they now find themselves joint in points with their newly-promoted opponents for this match. But then they only have themselves to blame after a stretch of five matches without a win.

With Wednesday’s 4-1 humbling by Sampdoria still fresh in their minds, this could be a real test of strength for the Amaranto. Coach Daniele Arrigoni can also call on an almost complete squad for this encounter, with only the injured Fabio Galante and suspended Giovanni Pasquale unavailable.

In contrast to Livorno’s slump, Torino finally seem to have picked up the form they promised to deliver in pre-season. They may have narrowly lost out to Roma in midweek, but there has been an obvious improvement at Toro in recent weeks.

That reverse was their first loss for six weeks and the Granata are now looking more like European hopefuls than relegation candidates. They will be missing some important players though, with injury victims Cedric Konan and Diego De Ascentis and suspended Ivan Franceschini are all out of contention for a place in Coach Alberto Zaccheroni’s team.

Man on fire: Alessandro Rosina (Torino) – The attacking midfielder has gone from strength to strength this season and it is no coincidence he is being linked with a call-up to Roberto Donadoni’s Italy squad.

Last season: Not played
