Serie A Week 14 - 3/12/06 (14.00 UK)
Udinese 1 - 1 Reggina
Bianchi 35 (R), Iaquinta 69 (U)
Stadio Friuli
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reggina picked up a point at the Stadio Friuli despite playing almost the entire second half in 10 men following Maurizio Lanzaro's dismissal.
Were it not for the Calciopoli penalty, both these sides would be level on 16 points going into the match. As it stood, Reggina needed victory to stave off relegation and the Friuli outfit hoped to wipe out last week's surprise defeat to Chievo. This fixture had never ended in a top flight draw with four home wins and two away celebrations.
This was a special match, as it tested out the four-camera system around the goals to electronically check if the ball has crossed the line or not.
Udinese had a strong start with Gyan Asamoah's header over the bar, then Ivan Pelizzoli was at full stretch to fingertip Antonio Di Natale's angled drive round the post.
Sulley Ali Muntari fired wide at the end of a solo run and Udinese seemed to have the better of the play, but it was Reggina who took the lead on 35 minutes. Rolando Bianchi sprung the offside trap to nod in Modesto's cross from six yards.
Pelizzoli denied Cesare Natali's header, while the goalkeeper then rushed his feet together for a reaction save on Vincenzo Iaquinta's low drive, though Giampiero Pinzi was unable to tap in the loose ball.
Asamoah's header was just wide of the near post and in the second half Pelizzoli dived to block a Iaquinta angled drive.
They went even closer when Zapata's header from a corner kick was cleared off the line - and on to the crossbar - by Tedesco's intervention.
Reggina were forced to play almost the entire second half in 10 men, as Maurizio Lanzaro picked up a second yellow card.
Udinese were laying siege to the Reggina net and finally equalised on 69 minutes. Di Natale deserves much of the credit for a splendid chipped pass over the defence for Iaquinta, who nutmegged Pelizzoli for the finish.
Di Natale also went for glory with a long-range attempt that skimmed the bar, but there were no more goals.
