Fiorentina’s Fabio Liverani has revealed why he quit Lazio, Sunday’s opponents, during the summer.

The Italian international moved to the Viola on a free transfer after no agreement could be reached on an extension with the Biancocelesti.

“I decided to go because I didn’t feel that President Claudio Lotito had faith in me anymore,” he stated on Friday.

“I was the captain of the team, but there was no longer the right feeling between myself and the club.

“I am a player who needs to feel rated by my owner. When this doesn’t happen, as was the case with Lotito, then it is better for a change in environment.”

Liverani, now 30, started his career at Cagliari, but spent most of his early life in the lower Divisions with the likes of Nocerina and Viterbese.

His big break came with Perugia during the 2000-01 Serie A campaign where he excelled as a playmaker.

He then joined Lazio in September 2001 when the Umbrian club accepted an £8m offer from the capital giants.
