Sampdoria 2 - 0 Lazio

Sampdoria got back on track after seeing off nine-man Lazio, Delio Rossi's men falling to a second consecutive defeat.
Both sides suffered unexpected defeats at the weekend. Sampdoria threw away a 2-0 lead at Atalanta and Lazio were hammered 3-1 by Catania. Francesco Flachi, Cristian Zenoni and Gennaro Del Vecchio were suspended, with Massimo Oddo sitting out a ban for the Biancocelesti.
Christian Manfredini had the first scoring opportunity of the match, running down the flank and bringing a tough save out of Luca Castellazzi. The ball came out to Tommaso Rocchi, who drilled just wide.
Sergio Volpi attempted a strike from the edge of the box that was smothered by Angelo Peruzzi, as was his free kick.
Just before the break the Blucerchiati rattled the frame of the goal with Palombo's snapshot from 35 metres that took Peruzzi by surprise.
Sampdoria broke through after the restart thanks to a defensive error. Manuele Belleri's error sent Fabio Quagliarella running, as he cut back and placed an angled drive past Peruzzi.
Igli Tare's header was saved with some difficulty and Stefano Mauri's angled drive skimmed the woodwork.
It all went wrong for the visitors when Guillermo Stendardo was sent off for a professional foul on Quagliarella and soon after Volpi converted a penalty to seemingly put the game beyond Lazio with Sebastiano Siviglia holding back Ruben Olivera.
Lazio nonetheless went close to a goal when Tare's angled drive thumped the far post with Castellazzi beaten.
Goran Pandev picked up a second yellow card to leave Lazio in nine men at Marassi.
