Owen knee op declared a big success
MICHAEL OWEN's knee operation has been declared a big success. The £17 million signing is now recovering after going under the surgeon's knife in America.
And Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has told the Press that the op on his prize asset - performed to repair anterior cruciate knee ligament - went like clockwork.
Roeder, speaking through the club's official website, said: "I've spoken to our club doctor Roddy MacDonald across in Colorado and he gave me the fantastic news that Michael's operation went extremely well.
"As far as Michael is concerned, he can now start to focus on playing again.
"It's going to be a long haul but he can start to focus on that.
"And I look forward to the day when I can write his name on a Newcastle United teamsheet."
Owen is due back on English soil in around a week's time, but he is still expected to spend the vast majority - if not all - of the current season on the sidelines.
