Roeder confident over Duff injury
Glenn Roeder is sure Damien Duff will be fit to face Wigan despite the injured Newcastle winger pulling out of the Republic of Ireland squad.
The £5million summer capture from Chelsea suffered a groin injury in training in Dublin and immediately returned to St James' Park.
The news comes after Shay Given also withdrew earlier in the week from the squad to face Holland with a back problem picked up in the Uefa Cup qualifying win over Ventspils.
Roeder insists Duff's injury is not serious though and the Magpies boss has been given the same assurances by Republic boss Steve Staunton.
"I'd like to thank Steve Staunton for pulling Damien out of the squad," Roeder told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
"It was just a precaution really but it allows us to get Damien back here to have a look at him and we think there will be no problems having him available for Saturday."
Meanwhile, Newcastle youngster Alan O'Brien also has a slight back problem, although it is not considered serious enough to threaten his chances of a first Ireland cap.
