Injured Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has had another setback, as he must wait for swelling to go down on his knee.
The 26-year-old sustained the injury in England’s World Cup game against Sweden.
Owen is awaiting a second operation in America under the hands of Dr.Richard Steadman, but the swelling on Owen’s knee must go down first.
During the first operation, the striker only had the cartilage in his knee repaired, with the actual damage to the cruciate ligament remaining.

Owen said:

"I'm just hoping the next operation can be successful. I have to make sure the knee is in a fit state and the swelling is down.

"That way I can give myself the best possible chance of having the cruciate operation.

"The plan is to go back out there in six or seven weeks - hopefully, that will be the last I see of America.

"Maybe then there will be light at the end of the tunnel and I can head for a comeback."

The £17 million striker only played 11 games for the Magpies last season after a foot injury sustained on New Years Eve.
It is now feared that Owen could miss the whole of the 2006/2007 season, forcing Glenn Roeder to get cover in, as the Magpies only have Shola Ameobi as a natural striker.
