Default Owen faces wait for more surgery

Newcastle and England striker Michael Owen will have to wait another eight weeks to have his ruptured cruciate ligament repaired.

The 26-year-old England international travelled to the Colorado clinic of specialist Dr Richard Steadman earlier this week, but will return home next week having undergone a procedure to treat a cartilage problem. He will then face a second trip.

Manager Glenn Roeder told the club's official website: "I spoke to our club doctor Roddy McDonald after the first stage of the procedure had been done, and he explained to me what the second stage would involve, and that it could take place in eight weeks' time."
