Tottenham manager Martin Jol has criticised 'tasteless' West Ham fans for chants aimed at Egyptian striker Mido.

The player, who scored Spurs' only goal in a 1-1 draw against the Hammers on Sunday, was racially taunted by sections of the visiting support.

Jol said: 'Was it tasteless? Yes. Our fans gave Teddy Sheringham a marvellous reception on his return and that is the way we deal with things here.'

Mido had scored the opener before Anton Ferdinand's last-gasp header rescued a point at White Hart Lane yesterday.

Spurs right-back Paul Stalteri does not expect Mido to be affected by the abuse.

'It is nonsense. It does not belong in sport and it's a form of racism,' Stalteri told The Sun.

'I don't think he will be affected by it. He scored a great goal so he has given them the right answer.'
