Fiorentina are lining up a bid for Arsenal’s Robert Pires, according to reports in Italy on Tuesday.

Viola President Andrea Della Valle has promised Coach Cesare Prandelli renewed transfer funds in January and is a huge admirer of the French midfielder.

Although Pires, whose Arsenal contract runs out at the end of the season, is keen to stay in London, the winger has turned down a one-year contract extension as he wants the security of a two-year deal.

The Gunners, who operate a strict policy with players who are in their thirties, have held firm on the matter and the stylish 32-year-old could well be tempted by a move to Florence.

Fiorentina have been the surprise package in Serie A so far this season.

The Tuscan side are currently third in the table and are in the market for players of experience in order to sustain their push for Champions League football next season.
