There are strong reports emanating from Portugal that Giovanni Trapattoni will return to the Italian Capital as a Coach, but not for Lazio as had been suggested.

For the last few weeks rumours have linked Trap to the Biancocelesti post and he has confirmed several times that he misses the Peninsula and wishes to return.

Fresh from the success of winning the Portuguese League title with Benfica, the former Italy Coach is set for a comeback, but new reports suggest it is with Roma and not their local rivals Lazio.

“I miss Italy and am ready to return,” he said earlier this week. “If someone is interested and still believes in me, then I will be happy to say yes. The big clubs are currently all sorted with their managers, but I am in no hurry and could happily rest for a few months.”

The Giallorossi are certainly looking for a new tactician after Bruno Conti’s time in charge earned all of two victories in all competitions since taking over in late March.

“Coming to Portugal was an experience I needed after the Italy job,” continued Trap. “I wanted to prove to myself what my talents were and I understood that I am still a ‘young’ and up to date Coach. I’m now looking for a new test.”
