Yeh really look at the stats:

Everton points total for example if you take that points total to 1997 you will be in 9th place. The last two seasons the level has been very poor and you just have to look at the runs of the top teams and the amount of points WBA needed to stay up, if they didnt have a great run at the end, it could have been 30 points to stay in the league. Dippers the champions of europe lost 14 games, two more then WBA. They finished closer to the relegation battle then to the top.

Its no shock that there has been records broken in the last two seasons because of how poor the quality of the premiership is. Just look at every team having 10 players behind the ball when they play the top 3.
