Default Star badly injured in crash

One of Norwich City's bright young hopes looks to be out of action for the rest of the season after being involved in a car crash with two team-mates.

Danish striker Asmat El Ouargui, 17, was in hospital with a broken neck last night after the accident just yards from the club's Colney training ground.

With him in the Vauxhall Corsa were fellow Norwich City Academy players, Adam Gusterson, 17, and Andrew Fisk, also 17, who were only slightly injured.

Asmat, who signed to Norwich just four months ago, must now put his career on hold as he recovers from the accident on Friday morning.

Club media manager Joe Ferrari said: "Asnat El Ouargui and Andrew Fisk were passengers in a car being driven by fellow first-year Academy scholar Adam Gusterson when it crashed near the club's Colney training ground. No other vehicles were involved. Gusterson and Fisk escaped with minor cuts but Danish striker El Ouargui suffered two broken bones in his neck and was taken to the University Hospital in Norwich where his injuries are being assessed.

"A hospital spokesman today described his condition as stable. Very best wishes for a full recovery go to Asmat from everybody at the club."

He would not speculate on how long Asmat would be out of football, saying his injuries were still being looked at.

Asmat, who was 16 when he transferred to Norwich in December from Danish club Hvidovre, was the first player from outside the British Isles to be signed by the Academy. He scored in pre-season friendly matches and first came to Norwich on trial last July. He made an instant impact when he scored the winning goal at Burnley after coming on as a substitute in the FA Youth Cup, and is well regarded for his good pace.

Police spokesman Jonathan Ford said: "There was an accident at 8.53am on Colney Lane just outside the Norwich City training ground. There were three casualties, two with slight injuries and one with serious injuries, thought to be a broken neck."

as most people know i always rant on about El Ouargui and how good he is ...this could be a massive lost for the future if he happens to quit football due to his injury

get well soon Ashmet
