Sunday marks the ninth consecutive year that the Revolution have played on Independence Day. All-time, the Revs are 4-2-2 in 4th of July games. In 2003, the Revs drew 2-2 with the LA Galaxy at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.; Jay Heaps and Taylor Twellman scored the two Revolution goals.
The Revolution added goalkeeper Clint Baumstark to the team roster for Sunday's game at Colorado as an emergency call-up after goalkeepers Adin Brown and Kyle Singer were both injured in the past two weeks. In 2003, Baumstark received callups from the Dallas Burn and D.C. United and played 100 minutes in United's 1-1 draw with the Crew on October 4. The 6'1", 200 lbs. keeper played intercollegiately at University of Alabama at Birmingham and was part of the U.S. Under-20 National Team player pool in 2002. The Revolution-Rapids game is a homecoming for Baumstark as he hails from Thornton, Colo.
Neither of the Revolution’s two all-time top scorers versus the Rapids - Taylor Twellman (6 G, 2 A, 14 PTS) and Joe-Max Moore (4 G, 2 A, 10 PTS) - will play against Colorado; both will miss the match because of injury. Steve Ralston (0 G, 4 A, 4 PTS) has the highest career production numbers versus the Rapids of those Revs expected to play Sunday night. No one in the Revolution projected starting lineup for this game has scored a goal against the Rapids in MLS regular season play.
Projected Revolution starting goalkeeper Matt Reis has enjoyed great success against the Rapids in his career, posting a 4-1-0 record and a 0.98 GAA versus the Colorado club. All five of Reis’ appearances, however, came as a member of his former team, the LA Galaxy. Reis did not play in any of the meetings between the Revolution and the Rapids in 2003, nor did he appear in the game at INVESCO Field on May 7, 2004 - a 0-0 draw between New England and Colorado.
Dempsey will look to conitue his three game goal-scoring streak..
