Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler says it is too soon for midfielder Danny Spiller to join a Premiership side.

There has been speculation that the Gills player of the year has been targeted by several clubs including Premiership side Southampton.

"Danny has still got a lot to learn and it is a big jump from Division One to the Premiership," Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent.

"He knows he is not ready for such a move and would admit that to anyone."

Hessenthaler added: "If he has another good season next year and keeps playing well then I'm sure I will get people phoning me up about him.

"But the club would not accept £750,000 for him, it's not enough."
